A Picture for Daddy

Things have been a little crazy at Casa de Strocel lately. Jon started a new full-time job in January. He’s actually worked for this company for over 7 years in a casual / part-time capacity, but they’re doing some new projects that are of particular interest to him. So he decided to scale back his freelancing and spend more time working for the man.

We’re pretty happy about the change for the most part, but one of the ramifications is that he had to give up the office space he was renting. So this month all of the office furniture and supplies have been slowly making their way into our house, and we’re trying to reorganize and de-clutter to make room. And in the midst of this Jon has been a little sad, because a new beginning also means an ending of something else.

On Saturday as Jon was making trips back and forth for his “move”, I explained to Hannah that her dad was a little bit sad. Of course she didn’t really understand why, although she is also sad because she loved the toys in the office common area. Anyways, I suggested that we should do something to help Daddy feel better. All on her own she decided to draw him a picture of his office, so that he could remember it.

When you have little kids there are times that you are sure they will be the death of you. When it’s all you can do to not hide in the bathroom and eat your own hair. And then there are times when you’re amazed at how fabulous your kids are. When you can really see how they will be caring and productive people. Watching Hannah draw that picture was one of the good times.

PS – If you haven’t done it, there’s still time to enter the draw for one of my diaper bags. I have enough entries, so I will draw 3 winners.
