Baby is here

On Saturday morning Amber woke me up to broken waters and a midwife on the other end of the phone telling us to go to Royal Columbian as we’re going to have a baby. It’s not anything you’re expecting at 34 weeks, and frankly was a little scary to us.

We got to the hospital at 7am, Amber stopped smiling through the contractions at around noon, and a beautiful baby girl, Hannah Lauren Strocel, arrived at exactly 4pm on Saturday, February 19th.

She cried right off the bat, and has been breathing on her own the whole time. As you can see from the picture on the front page she was very long for a girl her age, and this morning she was beginning to try to suck. For a preemie she is very strong and healthy, we are so thrilled.

The birth was very tough on Amber, but she’s going to come through just fine after she rests for awhile in hospital. With only a couple of hours of sleep, I’m going to crash for awhile. We’ll have plenty more to say in the coming days.
