Beautiful Thusnelda
I have a new baby. Not the human kind, oh no. The shiny, technological kind. The kind that has you stalking the front window all day, waiting for a delivery truck to pull up to your house. She is a shiny, new laptop, and I have named her Thusnelda. And she is very, very pink.
How did I choose the name Thusnelda? Well, you see, a month or two ago I mentioned on Facebook that I was going to buy a laptop, and I needed a name. And generously, Angela shared the names of some of her relatives. And when I read Thusnelda, I knew that had to be the one. It is solid, original, and not at all trendy. There aren’t going to be 15 other Thusneldas in a 3-block radius. And the name can’t go out of style, because it was never in style.
I shared my Mondo Beyondo list with you guys back in September, and one of the items on it was ‘buy a really pretty laptop.’ And now I have, and it feels good. Buying a pink laptop, pink mouse, and pink carrying bag might seem sort of frivolous on the surface, but to me it’s important. It means that I now have the freedom to go pretty much anywhere and write. It also means that I have a tool that makes me smile, and feels like mine. And I like that. I really, really like that.
So, without further ado, let me introduce Thusnelda, the pretty pink laptop:

Thusnelda, up close and personal

If you’re going to be my computer, you need to befriend the knitting

I really, really did name her Thusnelda

Of course, the children also love Thusnelda
As far as my kids are concerned, the best part of the new laptop is the embedded camera. Recording yourself and playing it back? This is hours of fun for a 4-year-old. Here is Hannah, singing a good-bye song to Thusnelda:
Happy computing!
Okay, her lip movements totally don’t match the soundtrack. How did you manage to make a kung-fu movie?
Somebody was seriously named Thusnelda?
Congratulations on the new arrival. I’m seized with the impulse to knit a rectangular pink hat.

I love the pink pattern. Very nice. Without my laptop my world would crumble…probably not. But I’d feel sad for a bit. Grats on the new baby.

Congratulations! My laptop is a boring black, issues by the office, but I think I’m going to get a bright red decal for it. Love your pink.

I also did not realize Thusnelda was someone’s real, actual, parent-granted name. That’s it. Next girl: Thusnelda. (Don’t worry — boys run in my family.)
Gorgeous computer & mouse, entrancing singer! Enjoy your new laptop freedom.

Aww, how cute is she?? (Hannah, I mean. Though it also applies to Thusnelda, of course.)
