Go Canucks Go!

The hockey playoffs are in full swing, and our Vancouver Canucks are still in the hunt. They’ve made it to the second round, and they won the first game against the Blackhawks. There is an electricity in the air, we’re all excited and hopeful. Even people who normally don’t remotely care about hockey are pulling for the Canucks. All the other Canadian teams have been eliminated, so our boys are left carrying the flame. Will we bring the cup back home to Canada after 16 years, or be disappointed yet again?

No matter what your stripes, having a winning team is exciting. There’s no two ways about it. It’s very easy to get caught up in the public emotion of the event. It’s a true communal experience that allows us to all band together, regardless of who we are and where we come from. When they say that hockey is like a religion I don’t think they’re far off.

In the midst of the excitement the car flags are multiplying. With each game won more and more people are letting their colours fly. Like these folks I spotted outside the library:
It's playoff season!

All that I can say is Go Canucks Go!

Update – Sadly the Canucks did not come through in game 2, losing 3 – 6. We are all very sad now. But we are also sure they’ll be back and better than ever in game 3.

Did I ever mention that I live with a Blackhawks fan? Oy. I just keep reminding myself that everyone has faults :)

Yeah, but your late start times are killing my Ontario-dwelling hockey-rabid nine-year-old! :)

The Oakland Raiders (American football) haven’t been doing well for a while, but I used to see cars driving down the freeway with huge flags flying from multiple window clamps and such large decals across the windows themselves that I wondered how the “Raider Nation” could see anything on the road!

    Good luck to your team!

  4. If this is my second comment, sorry. My page automatically refreshed so I don’t know if the first one went through.

Way to go Vancouver. I’m routing for your team as well, considering my Canadians didn’t even win one game. The worst part is that they lost to a bitter rival of the Habs.

  5. Well they sure have a nice logo there–and as long as they’re not playing the Anchorage Aces I’ll root along with you :)
