Jacob at 6 Months

My boy is 6 months old today. The months are really flying by for me this time around. There are a few reasons. Having a busy preschooler to keep up with is definitely one of them. But the other is that Jacob is a very lovely baby and I am a more experienced mom. The days are much easier, and so they just fly on by.

So what is he like, this little man of mine? He loves people, but he loves me best of all. Well, me and Hannah. Jacob knows where his bread is buttered, that’s for sure. He doesn’t cry very much, and he generally wakes up happy. He’s not interested in being still, even a little bit. He can sort of sit up but he usually throws himself down in some direction pretty quickly, not being the sitting around sort. Mostly he wants to stand and walk, and he particularly loves bouncing.

Look at the hair!

Lots of hair at 5 months

Jacob’s most distinguishing physical characteristic has to be his full head of hair. He never really experienced the hair loss that so many babies do. The mop on top of his head just keeps growing, in fact it’s starting to get in his eyes. I don’t think I will be able to bring myself to cut it for a while yet, so I imagine this will get much worse before it gets better. Hannah, as you can see in this photo, didn’t have much hair to speak of at 6 months.

Jacob is very solid, weighing in at 17 1/2 pounds these days. His feet are very chubby and his little legs are like tree trunks, making it difficult to find shoes that fit him. I laugh when I think that I looked at his scrawny newborn legs and was convinced that something was wrong with him. I was worried that he would never be able to stand on legs like those. Today I find it hard to believe I could ever have had that thought.

He’s a delight, little baby Jacob. And his first 6 months have come and gone all too quickly. I just wish it would all slow down so that I could grab onto this time, hold it and feel it and understand it. But that is not the nature of babies, I’m afraid, so I do my best to be present and soak up every drop. I don’t want to miss a second.
