Mission: Piano Shelf
I realize I dedicate rather a lot of posts to Jacob’s latest feat of climbing. But, you know what? This is my life right now. I spend my days constantly fluctuating between being amazed and impressed by my toddler’s abilities, and being afraid for his very life. Plus, I do think he’s rather adorable, and so I can’t really resist sharing his photos with the internets.
So, on to Jacob’s latest feat of climbing. The other day I was sitting here in this very chair, probably spending some time on Twitter. Then I happened to glance to my right, and noticed that Jacob had made it to the top of the piano chair. Being the dedicated blogger attentive parent that I am, I of course reached for my camera and decided to see what would happen next. Here it is, as it happened:
I snatched Jacob down right after the last photo was taken, and folded up the piano chair. This is the advantage to not having obtained more permanent piano seating – the Costco folding chair is easily transformed into a non-toddler-climbable object. Jacob has tried to unfold the chair a few times, with no luck. Thank heavens for that. I also spent a few minutes tidying the toys, since as you can see the family room was not exactly blog-ready when my son began his little adventure. I hope that just makes you all feel better about your own domestic disaster zones.
Here’s hoping for a peaceful weekend, free of toddler derring-do and other forms of mischief.

Obviously, your cat is a bad influence on Jacob. He was just mimicking her behavior. Bad, kitty! Bad! He looks like the little drawings of Harold in Harold and the Purple crayon. I lurve these.

Gasp. That is our daily experience too. Even more fun is when the micro dude can climb into something but not get back out. “Stuck! Stuck!”

My kids have a coined a phrase for that mixture of protective fear and maternal pride…. they say I feel “terro-pride” (“terror” and “pride” mixed together to sound like “terrified”)That’s when I am watching them and slap my hands over my eyes with fear for their safty and at the same time want to applaud there skill and bravery!!!! And with them dirt biking and riding jumps with teir bicycles I have lots of opportunities.

This post made me smile (it reminds me so much of Annabelle’s love for the keyboard); we also recently discovered that Levi loves to listen to keyboard/piano music . . . we also have a large keyboard that my husband has kept since he was a kid . . . it is old but still works and is one of Annabelle’s favorites;
cute pictures too,
You know, the other day I could have sworn I heard someone playing “great balls of fire”
Well done!

[...] is ample photographic evidence of that truth right here on this blog, in fact. You can see him scale the piano shelf, or master the playground unassisted. Or there was that time he made it to the top of our patio [...]
[...] It’s impressive, but it wears me down after a while. I can only fish the kid off of so many piano shelves before I lose my ever-loving mind, you know? Yesterday I fetched Jacob off of our dining room [...]

That’s priceless. Particularly the first one, where the perspective makes it look like he’s balancing on the edge of the chair on his toes, with his ass end floating in mid-air.
