Nature Walk

I’m having a bit of a rough go of it these days. Jacob is a delightful baby, but he doesn’t sleep all night like his sister did. I’m not worried about it, I know that he will outgrow it in time. But for now I am frequently sleep-deprived. The result is that I’m often impatient with Hannah, which isn’t great because it’s not her fault.

The one sure-fire way I’ve found to turn a bad day into a good one is to bundle the children up and head outdoors. When we get a sunny day at this time of year, it’s especially important to take advantage of it. I carry along a bag, and Hannah puts her ‘collections’ inside it. All of the special treasures like leaves, sticks, and pine cones that we come across. Jacob naps on my back, and Hannah and I throw rocks into the stream and pet mossy trees. And then we all feel very much better.

Here are a few photos I took during a recent nature walk in our neighbourhood.

I can’t wait for spring to get sprung out here. The kids still have to bundle up in snow suits and all the crap that goes along with them. And, there is thick layer of ice hiding underneath the patches of fresh snow which makes walking a hazard to my health.

I could almost smell the moisture in the air from looking at your picutres. There are so many beautiful things from home that I miss – thank you for showing me what I have to look forward to in a couple of months…spring!

I’m looking forward to some drier days so we can get out to the parks. Fresh air is good for everyone :) Where did you go walking? I’m trying to think of where there is “forest” near your house.

I’m still dealing with the opposite of you: Amelia sleeps all night pretty much (as long as she is snuggled up with me) but refuses to nap during the day. So I spend all my time trying to get her down and my frustration with the nap thing makes me short tempered with Victoria! It’s a vicious cycle…

I love taking my kids out and handing over the camera, I am always amazed at some of the pictures they snag. I wish I had that talent!!

It looks like a lovely walk!

I’m sorry you’re in the sleep-deprived boat too. I used to bring Buster into bed with me when he woke up too early, but now that he can crawl away, it’s too dangerous. I caught him as he almost pitched over the side of the bed once, and now we hang out and doze in the silly Superyard instead. It’s saving my sanity.
