Things I Learned in September 2009
This might be one day late, but Thursdays are now devoted to Crafting my Life, and as the fabulous Havi says ‘traditions are important‘. And so today I decided to review September. Because I learned a lot of stuff in September, as it turns out.
I am sure you’re very eager to find out what major discoveries I made. So, without further ado, I present it to you.
Things I learned in September.
1. How to sew baby pants using old T-shirts, courtesy of The Creative Family:

2. The seemingly overpriced kids’ haircut place is worth every penny, because they can work really quickly and do a good job even when your 1-year-old screams and flails for the whole 4 minutes. (Photo is pre-clippers, and hence pre-meltdown)

3. You meet some of the coolest people (and fellow dreamers) right in your own backyard.

4. I am better than most people at organizing others and writing lists, or at least I enjoy it more. No wonder I loved being a Brownie leader.
5. It’s not as hard as I imagined to change a flat tire.

6. What bear poo looks (and smells) like.
7. How to make and play a bull kelp trumpet.

8. 11-year-old boys really, really enjoy burning stuff.

9. My 13-month-old can reach the top of the patio table unassisted.

10. That, when all’s said and done, I really love the suburbs and I am happy here.
What about you, did you learn anything in September? Please share!
I so agree with you about the kids haircut place. I took my 4 year old yesterday. Those people are pros. Even through the fidgeting, they get the job done.
Great list.

The patio table one had me call out loud “oh-no!”.
And I wish I knew about the baby pants craft when my boys were wee.
Things I learned in September:
1. Doctors are assuming ALL sniffles are the swine flu virus right now.
2. Missing almost 2 weeks of school puts a Grade 3 boy WAY behind!
3. Hard drives can self-destruct with no warning at all… back up everything all the time!!!! (and there are some computer shops that are more sympathetic to a panicking woman than others)
4. Even after 3 weeks of eating them daily, fresh green beans from the garden are still delicious.
5. My bike helmet size is YS.

Great punchline. I’m smiling big.
PS I’ve watched my husband twice change a tire: not difficult at all, I decided, when someone else (other than me) is doing it:)!

I love the pant idea!
Hmm, what did I learn in September. I learnt I am happy to be one year older! No tears on my birthday although I am a little sad that I am starting to look my age. No more getting carded for me. ![]()

What I learned… in September… what I learned… in… I think I can’t even remember September. What was it, two days ago? Apparently that’s longer than my memory lasts.
Ooh, here’s something: we switched to a new pediatrician, and I learned that I should have switched a seriously long time ago instead of sticking with the one who was convenient but not a good fit for us. How’s that? That’s something!
I wish I could think of something I learned in sept. It was such a crazy month I just barely survived. ![]()

I learned that taking a risk on a cheapo vanity, hoping it pays off in your reno and can be “spruced up with nice hardware” doesn’t always pan out. That it can actually bite you in the ass and leave you without a vanity for 4 potential weeks… ack!

I agree that it’s worth finding a good kid’s haircut place. They just GET it!

Oy. The kiddies. All just adorable. (a little freaked out by that bull kelp.)

[...] in early October I reviewed some of the things that I learned in September. I enjoyed it, and so I decided to repeat the post. I am not above recycling an idea that worked [...]

You are fabulous at writing lists and organizing people
Thanks for your help in Bamfield; we would certainly have muddled on without your input, but it was so much smoother with.
(LOL at 11-year-olds!)
