… must come down. Or so the saying goes, anyway.
Baby Jacob is now 11 months old. He learned how to climb up stairs a couple of months ago. But he couldn’t figure out how to get back down. If he wanted to go down he would just sit at the top and wail until he was rescued. It wasn’t much fun because he seemed to climb stairs largely for the thrill of it, so it would be a near-constant game of me carrying him down and him crawling back up.
But a week or so ago he finally got the hang of it. Look and see:

He starts by dangling his foot over the side

Then he turns his whole self around

Once he’s in position he slides down on his stomach
Hooray for Jacob!

I love the look of triumph at the accomplishment!
So cute!! And somewhat easier (or not, really) for you
Yay!!!!!
That is too cute! My MIL likes to teach my nieces to go down the stairs front-ways, on their butts, but that makes me nervous, in case they should suddenly decide to stand up or try to step down. So I taught all my kids to turn around and go down on their tummies, just like that. Just yesterday, Ruby did that on the slide! This age is so fun!
Look how proud he is of himself—too darn cute! Ryan, at 23 months, STILL loves to go bouncing down on his butt (I still run down in front of him for fear he’ll somehow wipe out). And I’m notorious for making goofy sounds as sort of a movie score to such activities, so he has a frequent tendency to mimic me as he goes, “boop! boop! boop!” with every step. Silly boys.
On a different subject? how do you keep carpeted steps so clean? We live in a second-floor condo with a loft, and I swear I want to rip out the carpet on the steps and replace it with hardwood because I’m so sick of trying to keep it clean.
I love how happy he is at the end. So cute!
Your baby is just too cute, and your writing just keeps making me smile. I love, love, love your style Amber.
Okay, I’ll do the bloggy thing: “Great post.”
I am not looking forward to the climbing stairs phase. We have a really steep staircase and so I have been trying to keep the baby away from it. Luckily my daugther’s potty is right beside the bottom of the stairs and that is always way more interesting. At least for now.
AW! yay!
Alright! He looks rightly proud of his new accomplishment.
How do those stairs stay clean? Let’s just say the secret is to keep the camera frame nice and tight.
congrats jacob!
once the Wee Guy showed an interest in the stairs we started an intensive stair ascent/descent bootcamp cos i knew i would have no peace until he was able to cope with them.
he did once go “a over t”* when he and the dog decided to race – i managed to catch his ankle as he began his second revolution. no harm done but i aged several years
